Eastern Jerusalem and areas east of Jerusalem are often referred to as “Arab.” This is because in 1948 when Jordan took eastern Jerusalem and Judea-Samaria, they drove out every Jew and the Arabs settled in.
But this region was traditionally Jewish: the Jewish quarter of the Old City with the Temple Mount and the Kotel, ancient sites such as Hebron – where the patriarchs are buried, Shilo – where the tabernacle rested, and more.
This area is actually a stronger part of Jewish heritage in the land than is modern, western Jerusalem.
